History

The Coney Island YMCA opened in December, 2013.  The branch is a 44,000-square foot facility that features an aquatics center with a four-lane lap pool and family recreational pool, a full-court gymnasium, fitness and multi-purpose rooms, and more, all overlooking the neighborhood’s historic boardwalk. As part of the new Coney Island Commons project, the Coney Island Y is a center for community life and a shining example of the diversity of the newly revitalized Coney Island landscape.

Coney Island was one of the East Coast communities most severely impacted in 2012 by Hurricane Sandy. The opening of the Y was delayed by approximately three to four months due to damage the construction site incurred as a result of the superstorm. Now open, the Y is a resource for communities in this historic New York neighborhood.
