YOUTH PROGRAM SCHEDULE

FOOTPRINTS is a week-long dance festival that celebrates the work of emerging and established modern choreographers on the stage of the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater at the West Side YMCA. This annual festival, now in its 4th year, curated by Amanda Selwyn, showcases innovative works of contemporary dance with a strong theatrical aesthetic.

This year's festival will feature choreographers: Ashley McQueen (Smashworks), Adam Dickerson (Fuju Dance), Cassandra Richards, Douglass Dunn, Tina Croll, Lindsay Miller, Ashley Carter & Vaness Martinez de Banos (Double Take Dance), and Amanda Selwyn (Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre).

BALLET | Ages 5-9 Years
In this playful and creative Ballet class, students will learn basic ballet positions, balances, port-de-bras, barre work, across the floor, and short combinations.

TAP | Ages 7-11 Years
From rhythm to isolations, shuffles to jumps, turns and kicks, this Tap class will be accessible and fun for one and all.

MODERN DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY AND COMPOSITION | Ages 7-12 Years
In this exciting dance class, students will learn modern dance technique from Cunningham to Graham, Duncan to Hawkins to Taylor, practice dance improvisation, and learn basic choreography skills to develop their own dances.

From the shuffle to the time step, this tap dance basics will break down the fundamentals of each step, practice drills, develop fun combinations, and get you moving in rhythm in no time!  All levels are welcome.

BALLET BEG/INT | Adults of all ages
It's never to late to learn the basics.  In this fun Ballet class for all levels, students will develop poise, balance, agility, and grace while learning basic ballet positions, balances, port-de-bras, barre work, across the floor, and short combinations.

PILOBOLUS  DANCE MOVEMENT-MAKING | OLDER ADULTS 55 +
This class will be starting up again in the fall.  It will not run in session 183.
In this workshop, teaching artist, Jessie Sector from Pilobolus will lead participants in warm ups, kinesthetic exercises, and group improvisations. Each session will include collaborative choreography creation and sharing. Participants will experience new kinds of movement, creativity, and connection. The class is fun, group-led and accessible for any level of physical ability.No dance experience necessary, just a great attitude and a willingness to move!

Pilobolus is for anyone - those who like dance...and those who don’t! The company has performed on the Oscars, Sesame Street, and even made a Grammy Award-nominated music video with the rock band, OK Go.
