CAMPS

Explorers Camp AGES 5-8

Explorers campers will engage in activities that will enhance their social and emotional skills, help keep their academics on track, keep them physically active, and challenge them to learn new things every day. They will have the opportunity to meet new friends and take exciting trips throughout New York City. Campers will participate in a wide range of sports, instructional swimming, arts and crafts, and weekly themed days such as Crazy Hat Day. They will engage in environmental science and more.

Our camp activities are designed to help children retain and build upon the academic skills they have developed during the school year. Research has shown that children can lose a half grade of learning over the summer months. The YMCA offers programs such as Book of the Week, which gives children the opportunity to read a book as a camp group and participate in a related discussion. Journaling helps children to retain writing skills through writing exercises that connect with their camp experiences. Field trips are selected to maximize educational enrichment, and include trips to local museums and science centers.

Swim Camp AGES 5-8

Our Swim Camp helps children develop important swimming skills and a lifetime love of the water, while instilling values around water safety and responsibility.

Below are the four key components of Swim Camp:

  • Young swimmers are given the chance to build skills.
  • Stroke development and other training is tailored to age level and ability.
  • Swim campers participate in core camp activities. Personal Growth: learning new skills helps build self-esteem.

Jr. Sports Camp AGES 5-8

Our Jr. Sports Camp program will provide introductory instruction of both recreational and competitive sports to children ages 5 to 8. Campers will learn the history of different sports. In addition, they will learn about teamwork, good sportsmanship, and motivating each other to succeed. Camp staff have a background in coaching sports.

Performing Arts Camp AGES 9-12

Our Performing Arts Camp program is designed to develop our campers’ artistic abilities through a wide range of cultural activities inspired by works from artists from around the world. Campers will also find new avenues of self-expression and gain an understanding of their creative potential. Swimming, summer reading, trips, arts and crafts, and group games are all tied in to create a well-rounded camp experience.

Sports Camp AGES 9-12

Our Sports Camp program is designed to enhance various sports skills and fundamentals. Campers will learn the history of different sports. They will learn the rules and skills of each while practicing their techniques through various games. In addition, they will learn about teamwork, good sportsmanship, and motivating each other to succeed. Camp staff have a background in coaching sports.

Dance Camp AGES 9-13

Dance Camp is designed to explore ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and modern dance. Campers will also have the opportunity to watch musicals and ballets to stimulate creativity and exploration as they—with the instructor’s guidance—create their own dance routines with costumes and imagination! Creative Movement classes will be taught by our highly trained faculty who encourage students to develop their techniques and self-expression.

Teen Camp AGES 13-15

Teen Camp is for 13- to 15-year-olds currently enrolled in high school. Teen Camp motivates teens through hands-on programming that fosters the development of educational and career goals. Along with sports, arts, and cultural programs teens will have the opportunity to participate in college and career readiness programs. Field trips will allow teens to explore some of New York City’s key landmarks and cultural institutions.
