YMCA Summer Camps

From swimming and sports to arts and culture, YMCA camps will engage your child in a summer of exploration and enrichment. The city is our campground.


CAMPS

Early Childhood Camp AGES 2-4

Early Childhood Camp provides our youngest campers with hands-on, experiential, fun activities planned to support each child’s social, physical, and cognitive skill development. Activities include swimming, outdoor play, music and movement, and interactive science, language, and literacy activities. Staff members experienced in engaging with preschoolers understand the importance of rich adult-child interactions and focus on building supportive, nurturing relationships with every camper. Early Childhood campers will enjoy campsite-based collaborations with child-friendly organizations and go on excursions within walking distance in their own communities. Each child age three and older will receive a swim lesson once a week. Camp location: Early Childhood Center

Kinder Camp AGES 4-5

Kinder Camp is designed for children entering kindergarten in September 2018. Structured day camp activities support the transition to kindergarten by building social and emotional skills in a fun and nurturing environment, including a focus on classroom structure, transitional activities, and group play. Kinder Campers will participate in instructional swimming, indoor and outdoor physical fitness, interactive science, literacy activities, theme-based arts and crafts, and local outings. To prepare our young campers for their transition into kindergarten and develop their skill sets and comfort level with city travel, Kinder Campers will participate in one field trip by bus each session and will have one swim lesson a week at the Greenpoint Y pool. Camp location: PS 84.

Day Camp AGES 5-12

Grasshopper Camp (Age 5) Grasshopper camp is for children who have completed kindergarten. Camp participants will enjoy a dynamic program that includes learning camp songs, team building opportunities, group games in the gymnasium, arts and crafts, the opportunity to participate in our annual Spirit Day competition, and a chance to make new friends while strengthening past relationships. Campers will participate in one field trip per session and will have one swim lesson a week at the Greenpoint Y pool. Camp location: PS 84.

Bumblebee Camp (Ages 6-7) This camp is designed to engage the whole child as we explore opportunities to strengthen critical thinking skills, literacy, math, social and emotional development, and a sense of community, all while having fun. Campers will enjoy an array of activities that strengthen problem-solving skills on an individual and group level. They will also work as a team to design a performance for our annual Spirit Day competition. Campers will participate in one field trip per session and will have one swim lesson a week at the Greenpoint Y pool. Camp location: PS 84.

Firefly Camp (Ages 8-9) Firefly campers will enjoy an array of daily activities that will challenge them cognitively and physically. Campers will have the opportunity to problem solve individually and in groups using critical thinking skills. Participants will learn a variety of sports techniques, participate in expressive arts activities, take on team challenges, and be engaged in learning opportunities that support academic growth in relevant and exciting ways. Campers will have a chance to showcase their learning at our annual Spirit Day competition. Campers will participate in one field trip per session and will have one swim lesson a week at the Greenpoint Y pool. Camp location: PS 84.

Dragonfly Camp (Ages 10-12) Dragonfly campers will enjoy an array of daily activities that will challenge them cognitively and physically. Campers will have the opportunity to problem solve individually and in groups using critical thinking skills. Participants will learn a variety of sports techniques, participate in expressive arts activities, take on team challenges, and be engaged in learning opportunities that support academic growth in relevant and exciting ways. Progressive Swim Camp AGES 7-12

The YMCA is a leader in youth swim, and has helped generations of children become outstanding swimmers. Progressive swim camp is designed for children of all levels. Campers are grouped according to skill proficiency and mastery. Children also participate in programs such as group games, environmental studies, arts and crafts, and health, nutrition, and exercise. Traditional day camp activities are incorporated into the program for added enrichment. Campers will have three swim lessons a week at the Greenpoint Y pool. This camp will be available for Session 1, 2 and 3. Location: PS 84.

Sports Camp AGES 7-12

Sports camp teaches children the fundamentals of basketball, soccer, and baseball. We focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, the importance of sports and exercise, and skills development. Campers swim once a week at the Greenpoint Y pool. This camp will be available for Sessions 1, 2 and 3. Camp location: PS 84

Camp hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

DAY CAMP OPEN HOUSES

Saturday, February 10 | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Saturday, March 24 | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Saturday, April 21 | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm


REGISTER

Complete the application, and submit a $50 deposit for each camp session. There is also a one-time non-refundable $100 registration fee. The $100 registration fee is waived if you have a family membership.

Submit your child’s medical form and two passport photos by June 1. It’s a good idea to keep extra copies of the medical form for your records. All necessary consent forms and payment due dates for each session are as follows:

  • Session 1 due date is March 16, 2018
  • Session 2 due date is April 13, 2018
  • Session 3 due date is May 11, 2018
  • Session 4 due date is June 15, 2018


FINANCIAL AID

Thanks to our generous donors to our Annual Campaign we are able to make the Y accessible through our Financial Assistance Program. These gifts provide scholarships for individuals and families who want and need Y programs, but cannot afford them. 

To apply, complete our Financial Aid application and submit it along with the required documents.

Our camps are accredited by the American Camp Association and our staff go through rigorous training to ensure the safety and positive experience of each child.
