The Y-MVP (Moderate to Vigorous Physical activity) app was designed by the YMCA of Greater NY (“YMCA”) to motivate teens to track their workouts and earn digital badges for completing different fitness missions. Y-MVP aims to move first time teen exercisers along a path from setting to achieving personal fitness goals. Y-MVP promotes positive adolescent heath to help counteract the sharp decline in physical activity that typically occurs among American teens. Y-MVP aims to build a community of young people that values physical activity.
The Y-MVP app is not directed to anyone younger than 13. Parents/guardians may choose to create an account and allow their tween (11 or 12 year old) to utilize the app. If we become aware of a user who is under the age of 13, and does not have parental/guardian permission to use the app, we will terminate that account.
The Y-MVP app is designed primarily to accompany the Y-MVP Fitness Challenge program offered through local New York City YMCA branches. But it is a cool app to build and track workouts even without the on-site class time!
To use the app, YMCA will collect each user’s first and last name and email address. This personal information is the only personal information collected through the app and is used only for purposes of the app. If you are between the age of 11 and 17 and want to participate in the Y-MVP Fitness Challenge through a local YMCA branch, your parent/guardian will be required to complete the necessary registration materials, which require that additional personal information be provided.
If you contact the YMCA or our customer service representatives by telephone, e-mail or letter, we may keep a record of your correspondence or comments. If you report a problem with Y-MVP, we may collect such information in a file specific to you. If you contact us through our feedback area or by calling one of our customer service representatives, we may ask for your name, e-mail address and other information in order to send you a reply.
Y-MVP integrates an aggregate analytic platform to learn about user behavior within the app so that we can improve user experience over time (e.g., which activities are most popular, percentage of users that complete workouts, percentage of users that download or delete the app, etc.).
There are no cookies or beacons in or for the app.
Although the YMCA is a nonprofit organization and is therefore not subject to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, it takes children's privacy very seriously. The YMCA will not sell any of the information sent to it, whether by children or anyone else. The YMCA will not sell any of the fitness information or any other user information that it receives through use of Y-MVP. The YMCA will not provide any of your personal information to any advertiser.
We will not use or disclose your personal information for any purpose other than those for which it was collected, except with your consent, as required or authorized by law, or in any situation in which we believe that your life, health or safety may be in danger.
If Y-MVP users take a picture or screen shot of their earned badges and post it on social media sites or email it to someone, any such disclosure is entirely in the control of the user and is not a direct function of the Y-MVP app.
Information in Y-MVP is not visible to any other user of Y-MVP.
YMCA of Greater NY may use your personal information to contact you by email with newsletters or updates, to provide information related to fitness and health, or to administer surveys. You may “opt-out,” or unsubscribe from our newsletters by following the unsubscribe instructions in any e-mail you receive from us, or by sending an e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org. After doing so, you will not receive future communications or mailings unless you open a new account.
We may combine your personal information with that of other users to create aggregate data which we will use, for example, to improve our products and services and develop new ones. Aggregate data is general information about groups of users but not about you as an individual.
The aggregate information collected through Y-MVP may be provided to an outside company for the purpose of analysis. That data analysis agent may not share any of your data with others, or use it for any other purpose than to help the YMCA.
