The YMCA of Greater New York’s vision for learning and development is to create a culture where staff and leadership are co-owners and equal partners in fostering professional growth, career advancement, and organizational success by doing great work.
Our learning and development approach is rooted in the Cause Driven Leadership® Competency Model and ascribes to the 70/20/10 Learning Model, which is based on the understanding that 70 percent of what people learn is via an on-the-job experience, 20 percent of what people learn is through an interaction with a significant coach or mentor, and 10 percent of what people learn is through training and self-study.
Annually, full-time staff complete a development plan that serves as a strategic and intentional approach to their professional growth.
NYC University is the YMCA of Greater New York’s strategy to provide learning opportunities to our diverse staff. These learning opportunities are designed to equip staff with the tools necessary to develop appropriate behavioral competencies consistent with the YMCA of Greater New York’s culture and provide them with technical knowledge to execute their functions at the highest professional level possible. In addition, the YMCA of the USA offers a variety of training opportunities throughout the country that will complement your professional growth while preparing you for career transition within the Y.
