The teens started their week in California by spending the day at the California Academy of Sciences, a renowned scientific and educational institution dedicated to exploring, explaining, and sustaining life on Earth. The next day they visited a Marine Animal Center, and Fort Baker where they did some hands-on work, helping clean up the grounds. The trip to Yosemite was memorable, where they learned about Leave No Trace (bringing everything out with you that you bring into the wilderness), explored caves, and learned about sequoia trees. The teens also enjoyed a trip to Muir Woods.
There was also time spent sightseeing in San Francisco -- touring Chinatown, walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, and visiting the farmers market, Coit Tower, and Lombard Street, among other places. One day was spent participating in service work, filling lunch bags for senior citizens in the Mission District. One day was spent caring for the gardens at City Slicker Farms. Finally the teens were able to tour UC Berkeley and learn all about their programs for college students.
