5Pointz returns to LIC to help a good cause

Hundreds turned out for a hip hop fund-raising block party in Long Island City Saturday that featured a car show, break dancers, music, food and the return of a half dozen 5Pointz artists. The event took place at Francesco Teoli’s Evandro Tech Motors, located at 47-35 Vernon Blvd., and it was organized by his wife, Gianna Cerbone-Teoli, the owner of Manducatis Rustica. The block party helped the Long Island City YMCA raise nearly $25,000 with the help of area businesses, including Douglas Elliman, JetBlue, CRE Development Inc., Metropolis International and the Eckstein Development Group. Constantinides hosts first budgeting hearing

For the first time Councilman Costa Constantinides (D-Astoria) is among 24 Council members who are now allowing residents to vote directly on how to use $1 million of their discretionary spending allotment. A large contingent of the crowd came from the Long Island City YMCA to support a proposal for a new playground at IS 126, which now has a concrete slab ridden with holes and cracks. Their petition has over 350 signatures and letters from children. Read more…
