Bellerose couple have been each other’s Valentines for more than 70 years

The married couple, Ronnie and Hank Arond, now 91 and 92, found love on March 4, 1943. Having been members since 1952 they are very involved with the Cross Island YMCA on Hillside Avenue, where they have been members since 1952. Ronnie has been teaching yoga for over 20 years, along with synchronized swimming. In her spare time, she performs scenes from plays with a drama club for seniors called STAR. Read more…

Touch-A-Truck at YMCA

The Cross Island YMCA in Bellerose will host its second annual Touch-a-Truck fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26. The event is designed to be a family-friendly afternoon where children can get up close to and inside cars and trucks that they see on the streets every day, including police cars, fire engines, dump trucks, tow trucks and others. Curtis Granderson hosts Citi Grand Kids Clinic for young Mets fans

Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson hosted his first ever Citi Grand Kids youth baseball clinic in New York City with lucky student-athletes from the Cross Island YMCA. The kids spent time at various baseball stations and learned the fundamentals of the game from Granderson and Mets coaches, including fielding, pitching, hitting and more. Mets captain David Wright even made a surprise appearance to the delight of the kids. Read more…
