A boy praises the principal of his Brooklyn school and a fund-raising campaign takes off

Recently Human of New York's Instagram account featured a story of Vidal Chastanet, a 13-year-old from Brownsville. In the caption, Chastanet said his principal, Ms. Lopez, was his biggest inspiration. Since posting, Chastanet, Lopez and Mott Hall Bridges Academy became overnight sensations receiving over $1 million in donations. This is not the first time HONY raised money for a great cause. The Bedford YMCA honors the best of Brooklyn

The Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA held its 2nd Annual “Brooklyn Honors” gala and celebration Thursday night, a fundraising event that honors Brooklynites who are making a positive contribution both in and out of the borough. This year’s event was held at the Liberty Lighthouse in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Award-winning journalist, Caroline Clarke served as the mistress of ceremonies. Read more…

Ballerina star Michele Wiles visits Bed-Stuy YMCA

Professional ballerina Michele Wiles treated 23 campers to a ballet lesson Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA. The event is just one highlight offered to the over three hundred kids participating in the Y’s summer camp for kids, which runs through August. The participants taking this class were part of the Creative Camp, in which 60 kids in the age range of 7-9 and 10-12 are focusing on the performing arts. Read more…
